About 1500 Four Corners Wildflowers

GOING BEYOND THE USUAL WILDFLOWER APP: This app provides easy, quick identification of over 1500 wildflower species which make up 95% of all non-grasslike flowering plants known to grow wild in the 4-corners region where Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico join, even trees and shrubs. You’d have to work hard to find a flowering plant in the wild which is not in the app. Over 4750 color photos illustrate the plants. The app is ideal for farmers, nature lovers, conservationists, hikers, botanists, students, teachers, wildflower enthusiasts, gardeners, nursery owners, or anyone curious about the natural world. All photos are in the app; there is no need for an outside connection. The program is built on 19 years of experience creating interactive plant identification software. It is one of 29 wildflower apps we produce, covering 18 western and central states and 4 SW Canadian provinces. HOW IT WORKS: Select plant characteristics that match the plant to be identified. Select them in any order, from over 50 lists of characteristics. The characteristics are defined, with detailed scientific illustrations. With each choice of plant traits the list of possible plants shrinks, usually narrowing the list to one species with about 3 to 6 characteristics. The app can suggest lists to use based on ease of use, effectiveness, and the remaining species. Identifications can be confirmed by comparing with photos and descriptive information, and by looking up additional information from plant references. A list of references is provided with page numbers for each species. ADDITIONAL FEATURES: The app includes an interactive glossary of botanical terminology with scientific illustrations. Access is provided to all data for each species. Plant species may be alphabetized by either common or scientific name, and names may be searched by entering a string of letters. In-application documentation is available by tapping Menu > Help, or printing from http://flora-id.org/?page_id=247 ABOUT US AND THE APPS: The apps are based on our comprehensive interactive keys for PCs, which are subsets of the largest and most extensive database of plant characteristics produced anywhere. We sincerely appreciate the individuals, agencies, and institutions over the years that have graciously allowed us to include their copyrighted plant photos in our programs. Even with over 250 sources of photos, not all are of the highest quality. They are the best available and are included here for the help they provide for correct identifications. We are continually adding or replacing photos with better images as they become available, and those photos will be included in future app updates. Our keys run in software by XID Services. Richard Old of XID Services has produced a PC version “1200 Weeds of North America,” which is the most comprehensive weed identification reference in North America.
