About Akkadian Dictionary

Akkadian Dictionary / Akkadisches Wörterbuch / القاموس الاكدي العربي

This dictionary is based on Akkadian words, which are already transcribed in Latin and not in Cuneiform. This is problematic because important characters and sounds are missing in the Latin script (see Figure below). Transliteration is the rendering of individual characters with indices in presumed reading, linked to words. From the transliteration one can still conclude the corresponding cuneiform script of the original. where transcription represents the words written in cuneiform and formed according to grammatical rules. Here you can no longer always determine the characters of the original text.

The Akkadian… Peninsulan-peolpe from Arabia moved to settel at nord east cost of the arabian peninsula; then northward to Mesopotamia. They setteled mainly at the midle of tody Iraq; but spread also to the north and to the south. The Akkadians lived and shared land with the arriving Sumerian, who settled in the south part of Iraq.

The Peninsulan-People of Arabian shared a common language which is the root of Arabic (old as well modern Arabic), Akkadian with its dialects, Hebrew and others.

From the 9th century BC, the Assyrians and Babylonians recorded Arabs living (every where) in eastern Mesopotamia and settled in large numbers in Babylonia, in the Syrian Jazeera, as well as in north and north-west Arabia, and in Sinai.

Arab identity is the objective or subjective state of perceiving oneself as an Arab and as relating to being Arab. It relies on a common culture and the language including different dialects, a traditional lineage, the common land in history, shared experiences including underlying conflicts and confrontations.
