The 1990s generally saw sustenance of the music trends seen in the 1980s, particularly that of dance-pop and teen pop. Hip hop, rap, contemporary R&B, and urban genres, as well as rock music, electronic music, house and techno achieved further popularity. Punk rock, nu-metal, and ska punk achieved periodical success throughout this decade. Contemporary country music, meanwhile, rose as a major music genre during this time.
