The pop genre has been synonymous with music for many years. Popular artists such as Michael Jackson and Britney Spears have both ingrained their catchy songs into the American culture. Pop music over the years has evolved, crossing genres and creating new variations of the music. Taylor Swift, Kesha, and Lady GaGa are some of the new artists spear-heading the genre into the future.

“Pop music” is a broad-term for many different types of music: The term is flexible, and the music labeled “pop” changes frequently. It does, however, usually refer to popular, mainstream music with emphasis on a catchy melody and accessible style.
