A Programmer is a person who turns coffee into code, some say...
See how many items will be completed by a set date and rearrange your priorities.

Description

Git driven estimates! Use coffee cups and your git commits to automatically estimate the duration of future work.

[UPDATE] From version 1.3.0 GitCup supports local git repositories! It can be used offline and you don’t need to have your repository on GitHub or to have a GitHub account to use it.

If you are a software developer, at some point in your career, you probably had a conversation like this:

Dev: This story is 8 points.
Project Manager: Okay, so how long will it take?
Dev: Eer… I don’t know.

Story points, sprints, team velocity, are abstractions that we use to disguise what is in essence an implicit (and inaccurate) time estimate.
But in reality, most managers don’t care about any of these anyway. All they want is actual time durations that they can easily use to plan and prioritize what should be done next.

GitCup takes a different approach to tackle this problem.

  • First it keeps the concept of abstract estimations from Scrum where the complexity of a given work item is described with a non numeric categorization. More specifically with a coffee cup* size.
  • Then it uses the previously completed work items and the actual commits related to that work, to estimate how long a similar task would take.

That’s it!

No extra time tracking
No ceremonies
No jargon
Less effort for the developers
More reliable estimations for the managers.

Happiness, peace and rainbows all around!

*All cups used in this app are 100% recyclable.

  • Read commits from a local git repository.
  • Estimate work item duration based on commits associated with that item.
  • Simple click, drag and drop user interactions. Data entry is kept to a minimum.
  • No external hosting required. All project data are stored locally, on the user's device.
