This free mental math multiplication game is specifically designed to help students understand WHAT is happening when they multiply two digits together. It does this by displaying visually, via dots, the math the student is carrying out.

As a former K12 math teacher, too often my students would know that 5 * 6 was 30, but wouldn’t understand that 30 was 5 groups of 6 and 6 groups of 5. In designing this app, I also stayed away from multiple choice formats, because I want the students to generate the answers on their own, rather than picking between a few options.

The format of the game is that it lasts 60 seconds, and the student’s goal is to solve as many problems as possible in that given amount of time. At the end of the 60 seconds, the student’s score is displayed, and he or she is given the option to play the game again.
