Use the windows share feature (WIN+H) and share urls, text or tweets with the app to access available streams.
The video view is showing the title, the url and the progress. The player is using the build in entertainment theme.
If multiple streams are detected you can switch between the streams using the op app bar (swipe from top or RIGHT click anywhere).
From the hub you can open the app bar and click the button to parse the content of the clipboard.
Unlike other video apps you can switch to the startscreen or read an email while the streams keeps playing in the background.
Snap the video to the side and maximize as soon something really interesting is happening.

Metrolicious Pixel

Description

Metrolicious Pixel is a streaming app that will let you stream videos even if the app is in the background. While developing my main app (Metrolicious) I made a lot of bookmarks referencing videos I wanted to watch later. Many videos from Channel 9. There is an channel 9 app but it is not working in the background. Maybe someone else will find the app as useful as I do.

The app will parse the HTML of the page to find possible streaming sources. If the app finds multiple streams you will be able to switch between the compatible video formats detected.

The app is using the “Microsoft Media Platform - Player Framework” to display all supported streams. If the video is not playing the “Microsoft Media Platform - Player Framework” is not supporting the stream. I’m not able to support addtional formats. You want more formats? Talk to the “Microsoft Media Platform - Player Framework” people:
http://playerframework.codeplex.com/

The app currently is only allowing internet based streams. If you really want to stream internal videos please contact me. I try to request as few as possible app capabilities and at the moment it is only “Internet Client”.

  • Watch video streams from channel9.msdn.com and others in a simple modern app
  • Share any url or text with the app to discover playable content
  • Continue to listen to the audio of the stream while the app is in the background
  • Keep track of the position you left of and resume later at the same possition
  • Roam your currently watching videos to all your trusted devices and resume where you quit on the other device
  • Redirect the stream to any PlayTo (Charms -> Devices -> Play) compatible device like a Xbox One
  • Use trickplay to speed up the content up to 2x times as fast
