We realised that children had been cheating on Sight Words. They were remembering sequences and positions of many words on the sheets, rather than the words themselves. To address this, we built a mobile app, with the entire year’s words. As expected, kids’ performance dropped initially but now there’s no cheating! Children quickly caught up and progress to reading has been accelerated.

The app has the following benefits and features:

• Kids love technology and seem to find it more interesting.
• No fumbling with hundreds of paper cards
• Any period or collection of lists can be selected. You can test the words for the current week, or whatever group of periods you wish.
• Take it anywhere, to teach the kids whenever you have a spare moment.
• Easier to handle than the book or paper flash cards.
• Words selected totally randomly from the selected period.
• It remembers the selected range of lists from the previous session.
• Big slider buttons so even fat fingers like mine have no trouble.

Just tap the word to display the next one. Drag the sliders to set the range of lists. You can review either the current weeks’ words or any previous group.

Income from sale of the app is donated to the school.
