Description

The Fine Arts Journal was set up to respond to the needs and interests of art lovers and collectors, both nascent and established, mainly in the Middle East but also, through its digital version, globally.
The art world has become a gargantuan and complex place, with hundreds of museum exhibitions and a proliferation of art fairs and biennales. One may rejoice that there is so much art about to look at or to buy, but, even for art professionals or the seasoned art loved, it is almost impossible to keep track of what is happening, when and where. The auction houses have traditionally been one of the great markets for art but, with so many different auction categories and so many sales in so many venues, it is absolutely impossible to read all the catalogues or keep track of the sales results.
Learning about art for the sheer pleasure of it or because one wishes to sell or buy, is becoming in a sense much easier as there are so many different organs of information available online and offline, but actually a hundred times more difficult and bewildering because of the sheer vastness and multiplicity of these sources of information. Every year sees new collecting areas, as tastes, economic conditions and geopolitics change: Western art, American art, but also Islamic, Chinese, Russian, Japanese. Turkish art etc.
Even for established collectors, the array and choices are bewildering. For young, new buyers or those who have recently turned to art as an investment vehicle as part of a larger portfolio – which is increasingly the case – the question is how does one steer through the dizzying morass of information? How does one know the best places to see and buy art? How does gain a clear and accurate picture of the art world?
This is what The Fine Art Journal aims to do. It is our job to edit all the information available, to use all our knowledge, experience and savvy to put our readers ‘in the picture’. We want our articles to be informative, entertaining and, at all costs, a good read and an essential read. We employ first class writers and experts, interview a wide range of museum curators, experts, auction house specialists, dealers and collectors and provide top quality images, so that our magazine will be elegant, beautiful and, hopefully, inspiring.
There is no magazine like ours, none in the Middle East and indeed none elsewhere. We will not only welcome but invite readers to give feedback, as it is our fundamental belief that the world changes constantly, the art world changes constantly and we too should change constantly. We want to respond quickly to changes in the market place and changes in our readers’ tastes and preferences.
Our ultimate aim is to make The Fine Art Journal the most widely-read magazine not only in the Middle East but globally.
