Description

The TrialWatch App helps you monitor and report on trials within your own community. It is based on the online TrialWatch trial monitor training, which was developed by the Clooney Foundation for Justice in collaboration with, and approved by, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and which can teach you more about how to monitor criminal trials.

The App includes a set of simple, factual questions about what you might be seeing and hearing in court. These questions, in turn, match up to international fair-trial standards. For instance, the App asks whether the defendant has a lawyer, which is important in determining whether the defendant’s right to counsel is being respected. You can easily print the answers to the questions, which will then let you or someone else assess whether the trial was fair.

The App also arms you with tools to capture different kinds of data in one place and keep it secure. For instance, you can shoot photos; upload legal documents, and record audio of what happens in court (if allowed by court rules). The App then uses Microsoft’s Cognitive Services to transcribe or translate files you upload (in supported languages, such as Arabic, Russian, French, and Spanish).

When you are ready to begin, just create a trial and start answering questions. Once you have answered some of the questions, you can review your answers (and see what you have left to answer) on the review page.

You can use the App in both online and offline mode, letting you keep working regardless of where you are. You just need to click on a trial, which will download a local copy. Then your work will synch back up the next time you have connectivity.

Please note that there is a limit of 5 trials per account.
