Description

Have you ever wanted to know whether a TV show you watch is likely to be renewed or canceled? This app uses a database of statistics of renewals and cancellations of past years for the major TV networks in the US to drive a deep learning neural network AI in order to generate predictions that suggest whether a show is likely to be renewed or canceled.

I enter new ratings data and train AI all week long every week to try to search for every minor improvement to the prediction model it can find. Every network has its own unique prediction model, driven by ratings as well as other factors such as timeslot, syndication, ownership, and number of episodes ordered, and many others. The AI works to find a model that results in the highest accuracy possible, using the existing data from shows renewed and canceled since 2014. Check out the app’s About page for in-depth details into how this works!

I have been passionate about learning the mechanics behind tv ratings and how networks decide to renew or cancel their shows for years now, often commenting on articles with my own predictions each week. I’ve carefully been studying and improving my techniques every year until I eventually came up with the idea to leverage the power of neural networks to significantly improve my predictions’ accuracy.

Every week I publish new predictions on my Facebook page, and write up a description of what things have changed from last week to this. The app will download the raw prediction data as well as my most recent update post. You can browse predictions by network, or combine all networks together. You can sort by prediction odds, or by rating or show name. You can search for any show to see its prediction and more details, such as show description, banner image, and links to IMDB/TVDB. From there you can also access a detailed breakdown of the estimated contribution of each factor contributing to the prediction, as well as a list of all the episode ratings so far for the season. You can also browse data for all previous years, which allows you to see what the current prediction models would have predicted for those older shows if they were on the air now. I’ve also provided prediction accuracy history for the previous predictions published on Facebook (but realize that 2019-2020 is the first season I began using the deep learning AI)

This app is still brand new, so let me know what you think in the reviews here, or feel free to comment on my Facebook page as well.
