Vincent Willem van Gogh (Van Gogh) Born: (Zundert, The Netherlands, March 30, 1853. Dies: Auvers-sur-Oise, France, July 29, 1890) Dutch painter, main exponent of post-impressionism.

He painted 900 paintings and 1,600 drawings. At first his palette was composed of shades of earth. The light and bright colors, arises when he moved to Arles in 1888.

The recognition came after his death considering himself one of the great masters of painting.

He influenced the art of the 20th century, especially among Expressionists and Fauves.
Van Gogh best represented post-impressionism, a style that happened approximately in a period between 1885 and 1915.

Expressionism and Fauvism. The beginnings of expressionism appear during the last two decades of the nineteenth century. A trend to which Van Gogh would contribute, with works such as La noche estrellada and Los Olivos de Saint-Rémy.

The color and the impasto in the projection of Van Gogh’s painting was formalized fifteen years later with Fauvism.
