OpenShot Video Editor (Lite)

This is a versatile video editing program that can create and edit many different types of HD video formats and easily apply different effects and transitions.

The app has a beautiful user interface that’s clearly been designed with productivity and ease of use in mind, drawing some obvious queues from some commercial video editing suites. Although not as sophisticated as applications like Adobe Premiere Pro, OpenShot can edit and mix video based on layers called tracks.

For each clip loaded into this video editing app, you can drag and drop part of the video or the entire video clip into the interface’s project file. From here, adding these clips to a new track is as easy as dragging it.

The video preview area displays the current frame of the video project, depending on the track selected. When editing video in Tracks, you can easily add effects to clips by opening the Effects panel. Things like blur, brightness and contrast, cropping, color shifting, negatives, pixelation, and waves are some of the built-in effects. Dragging them onto a track adds an icon to the layer, which can be edited by right-clicking and clicking Properties.
